i-Phone now available in Orange

2/10/09 | Posted in category : Advertising, Branding, Marketing, Media, News, Technology

apple-iphonePreviously, all things iPhone were the solely at the hands of O2, which has been Apple’s exclusive partner since the iPhone launched in the UK in November 2007.

However, Orange - which claims to have the largest 3G network in the UK- has now confirmed that it will sell the phone through its retail stores, Web site, telesales channels, and selected partners. Pricing hasn’t yet been announced, though the consensus seems to be that Orange’s iPhone price won’t undercut O2 pricing levels.

What prompted the change of heart is speculation. Some analysts are citing O2’s customers at being unhappy about the lack of 3G services via the network, others are using the Orange/T-mobile pairing and perceived market dominance as the motivation.

Either way, success of the iPhone has been nothing short of revolutionary for the industry and it seems Apple has again achieved in the telecoms industry, what the iPod did for the music industry with the coup and market dominance of toppling the mighty Sony ‘walkman’.

Orange customers can register their interest via the Orange website.
